September is a special month at Brookside. On 7 September 1971, Brookside first opened its doors, and this year we’re celebrating 55 years of shopping, memories and community.
A lot has changed over the years. Stores have come and gone, fashion has certainly had its moments, and Brookside itself has grown and evolved. But through it all, we’ve remained part of the local community - and we think that’s something worth celebrating.
A trip down memory lane
To mark our 55th birthday, we’re digging into the Brookside archives and taking a look back at some of the people, places and moments that have shaped the Centre over the decades.
Throughout September, we’ll be sharing photographs and memories from years gone by. From the early days of Brookside through to some very memorable moments from the 80s and beyond.
And speaking of the 80s…
We may have revisited one particularly iconic Brookside look from 1987 for the occasion, complete with a little extra fluorescent flair.
